Meet the Extra Life Team at TwitchCon’s Tiltify Charity Decathlon

Twitch content creators are coming together at TwitchCon 2017 to participate in the Tiltify Charity Decathlon event – raising funds for Extra Life, a Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals fundraising program within the gaming community.

Twitch is one of Extra Life’s biggest partners – contributing more than $1 million each year for CMN Hospitals. TwitchCon is a celebration of all things Twitch, from the streamers and their communities, to the developers who make the games the community loves.

19th Annual Meineke Tournament of Champions Golf Outing

Driven Brands held their 19th Annual Meineke Tournament of Champions Golf Outing at The Golf Club at Ballantyne in September. The outing supports Meineke and the Driven Brands Charitable Foundation.

Attendees raised more than $18,000 for CMN Hospitals through a silent auction and raffle! They even had local miracle child, Alex Santos, onsite: “The picture below of Alex Santos is a great representation of how much fun was had on the course. Alex is a part of the Driven Brands family and has been treated at a local Children’s Miracle Network Hospital. To have him out on the course is a great reminder of why we do what we do!”

How CMN Hospitals’ Partners Celebrated Child Health Day

On October 2, 2017, a number of Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals partners celebrated Child Health Day, resulting in over $464,127.61 raised for local hospitals, 9,500 new participants registered for CMN programs, and over 16 million social media impressions. 

Child Health Day is a United States Federal Observance Day observed on the first Monday in October. In a Presidential Proclamation in 2013, President Barack Obama stated that “On Child Health Day, we are reminded of our first, most urgent task—to protect and develop the health of our children. Today, let us reaffirm our commitment to our Nation’s youth and remember our future depends on their success.”

MIRACLE NETWORK DANCE MARATHON:

On Child Health Day, college students at over 300 colleges and universities participating in Miracle Network Dance Marathon set out to Commit For The Kids by recruiting new participants, engaging in fundraising campaigns, and helping to spread the word that children’s hospitals need donations by posting on social media.

In just one day, these students united together to raise over $387,000 and recruit 9,050 new dancers. Dance Marathon programs had the opportunity to compete in various recruitment, fundraising, and social media challenges throughout the day to win extra donations toward their fundraising efforts. Miracle Network Dance Marathon programs and participants flooded social media and hosted awareness events on campus to raise awareness about their efforts for their local hospitals.

EXTRA LIFE:

Extra Life, a CMN Hospitals program within the gaming community where participants fundraise year-round and pledge to play games for 24 hours, committed for the kids on Child Health Day by recruiting 402 new participants and raising $40,500.

Around 350 Extra Life participants also “donated a social media post,” helping to create a social reach of over 2.3 million people and spreading the word about the incredible work the Extra Life community is doing for the cause. Since 2008, Extra Life has raised over $30 million for local children’s hospitals.

PHI MU:

On Child Health Day, members of Phi Mu from across the U.S. set out a goal to “Commit For The Kids” to raise $10,000 in one day.

On their Commit For The Kids fundraising page, over 650 undergraduate and alumnae members and friends of the fraternity have made donations, helping them raise $11,200 in just 24 hours!

The Kappa Mu chapter at Georgia Southern University was the highest fundraising chapter, raising over $1,542 during the day. The Phi Alpha (McDaniel College) and Kappa Alpha (Mississippi State) chapters followed, raising $1,000 and $865 respectively. The Epsilon Iota chapter at Texas Christian University received the largest number of individual donations, receiving 92 donations.

In addition to their “Commit For The Kids” campaign, Phi Mu members also raised an additional $15,000 through participating in Miracle Network Dance Marathon fundraising campaigns.

As an official partner of CMN Hospitals since 1986, the women of Phi Mu have raised over $15 million for the kids in their community, breaking a record last year by raising $1.8 million in 2016 alone.

Disney Princess Half Marathon Miracle Makers:

Individuals who have signed up to participate in the Disney Princess Half Marathon weekend of races can become Miracle Makers by fundraising for CMN Hospitals. To date, there are 414 Miracle Makers participating in the 2018 event.

To celebrate Child Health Day, Miracle Makers were challenged to raise $32 in honor of the 32 million hospital visits to CMN Hospitals made by 10 million kids every year. 61 Miracle Makers came together to raise over $11,000, with 54 of them completing the challenge to raise over $32.

REMAX:

On Child Health Day, REMAX agents donated more than $10,500 to benefit their local children’s hospitals.

Throughout the year, REMAX agents and offices show tremendous support for the communities in which they live and work. Agents and offices can make a donation to their local CMN Hospitals with each house sold through the Miracle Home program–and many give above and beyond through additional fundraising events and honor cards.  Agents who raise $500 or more in a calendar year are recognized as Miracle Agents and offices that raise more than $2,000 are recognized as Miracle Offices.

ACE:

ACE Hardware retailers celebrated Child Health Day by hosting a round-up campaign, allowing customers to opt to round up their purchase total to the nearest dollar as a donation to CMN Hospitals. Collectively, the 120 participating ACE retailers raised $3,088 for local hospitals.

Since becoming a Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals partner in 1991, Ace Hardware has raised more than $80 million for local Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals across the country.

SPEEDWAY:

On Child Health Day, Speedway locations encouraged customers to “Fuel Miracles” by donating any amount to their local children’s hospital at store registers. Since becoming a Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals partner in 1991, Speedway has raised more than $90 million for CMN Hospitals.

Three Brands Making an Unexpected Difference for Kids

Family care brands, Kleenex, Scott toilet paper and Viva paper towels help CMN Hospitals help kids.

Since 2016, the family care brands have donated over $350,000 to Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals; $150,000 during the month of September at Walmart. These donations help CMN Hospitals help kids by supporting the fundraising programs that take place in over 170 communities throughout the U.S. and Canada.

Companies like Kleenex, Scott and Viva play an important role with CMN Hospitals. Not only do the brands allow fundraising programs to happen, they also keep kids happy, smiling, and having fun while in the hospital.

REMAX Miracle Ride office Raises $3,470

On August 27th, 31 motorcycles and 51 riders participated in the annual Motorcycle Ride for CMN Hospitals in Battle Creek, Michigan. Hosted by REMAX Perrett Associates, Inc., the event raised $3,470.00 for Helen DeVos Children’s Hospital in Grand Rapids.

Miracle Child, Keegan Bulk, shared his experience as a cancer survivor and patient of DeVos. “We are always happy to share Keegan’s story and support our partners who give so much back to Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals,” said his mother, Jennifer McFarland.

“This is truly a group effort from several of our REMAX Perrett agents who have a heart for CMNH and for fun,” said REMAX Perrett Broker/Owner Lisa Damron. “We figured out a way to merge the two into one great event. We see having a Miracle Child present consistently as a way to really leverage the results of CMNH to drive for more donations.”

Next year’s event will take place Sunday, August 26.

Delta celebrates September as CMN Hospitals’ Month of Miracles

September is Delta’s Month of Miracles. That means that Delta employees in Atlanta and elsewhere are coming together to raise funds for sick and injured kids at 153 Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals across America.

All throughout the year, Delta takes great care to help take the best care of our smallest patients at CMN Hospitals–from monetary donations that pay for research and equipment to funding positions that provide important services to children and their families like those featured in the video at New York’s Cohen Children’s Medical Center. Delta Air Lines has been a dedicated supporter of CMN Hospitals since 1998. Here are some other activities Delta Air Lines has taken part in this year too.

If you’ve delayed signing up for Extra Life, today is the perfect day to sign up. We are officially 60 days away from Game Day on Saturday, November 4th! You can kick off your fundraising by making a donation to yourself, and let others know that you’ve started your campaign. With built-in connectors to Facebook, twitter, and the Extra Life app, it’s easier than ever to let people know you’re fundraising. We even have some best practices to get you started.

How much can you raise in 60 days? It only takes $3.34 a day to raise over $200. Want to break it down further? That’s only eight weeks. If you talk about Extra Life to just five people a week, you can reach 40 people! If everyone donates $5, you’ve raised $200. Those 40 potential donations could become 40 additional Extra Lifers. Your participation and messaging makes an impact, and that’s how Extra Life has grown to more than 19,000 players helping to heal sick and injured kids.

Another great reason to start your campaign this month is the third annual Extra Life Tabletop Appreciation Weekend that kicks off Saturday, September 23rd. Impacted by Hurricane Harvey: Direct Energy reaches out to support customers and employees as relief efforts begin

Headquartered in Houston, Direct Energy was in the direct path of Hurricane Harvey. In a four day period, rainfall of over 40 inches drenched Houston as the wettest tropical cyclone on record for the US.

As the floodwaters subside and Houston residents begin to return to their homes, Direct Energy has reached out to all of its Texas customers to support the relief efforts. From not charging late fees to working to restore power, Direct Energy has made a promise to care for its customers in this time of tragedy. Additionally, many employees of the Centrica-owned company are facing their own challenges. A relief fund has been started to support the employees who have been directly impacted. Direct Energy has been a proud partner of Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals since 2015. Multiple brands, including Mister Sparky, Benjamin Franklin Plumbing, One Hour Heating and Air Conditioning, Bounce Energy, and Home Warranty of America, host annual campaigns to raise money for their local Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals. Since 2016, Direct Energy has also made a one million dollar annual gift to Texas Children’s Hospital, located just a few miles south of their headquarters. They were first inducted into the Miracle Million Club in August 2016 and have remained a valued member.

2017 Speedway Miracle Tournament Raises nearly $2.5 million

Speedway raised nearly $2.5 million for Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals during the 26th annual Speedway Miracle Tournament at NCR Country Club in Southwest Ohio. The tournament is the centerpiece of Speedway’s annual fundraising efforts for the 56 Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals throughout the 21 states in which Speedway operates.

Over 800 golfers joined in two days of events—including 18 holes of golf, a gala dinner and medals ceremony, art auction, raffle drawing and prizes—all to raise money for sick and injured children treated in Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals. During the gala dinner, the Miracle Child Art Auction raised over $37,000 alone.

As golfers made their way around the course in a four-person scramble event, they were greeted by a total of 31 Speedway Miracle Children—pediatric patients treated in 27 different CMN Hospitals—and their families who sold raffle tickets and golf balls for the cause.

“Speedway is an important partner and understands that one of the best ways to support kids in communities where their stores are located is to raise funds for children’s hospitals,” said John Lauck, president and CEO of CMN Hospitals. “This event is a tremendous help in ensuring children’s hospitals have the funds they need to care for sick and injured kids, and we are grateful for Speedway’s commitment to helping kids.”

Since 1991, Speedway has raised more than $90 million for CMN Hospitals through a variety of initiatives, including year-round canister and icon campaigns in the stores and an employee payroll deduction program.

Aflac releases the 2016 Corporate Social Responsibility Report

Aflac employees and independent sales agents have embodied the notion that “Everyone has the Power to Do Good”, and their new 2016 Corporate Social Responsibility Report, shows just that. Through stories about Aflac’s commitment to ethics, a happy and diverse workplace, philanthropy and environmental sustainability, CMN Hospitals is proud to partner with Aflac.

In the 2016 report, four Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals are featured including the Aflac Cancer and Blood Disorders Center at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta, Arnold Palmer Children’s Hospital, Dayton Children’s Hospital and Palmetto Health Children’s Hospital.

A key champion for the CMN Hospitals partnership, and a dedicated supporter of Arnold Palmer Children’s Hospital, Tanya Winchester was also recognized for her volunteer efforts to support our Orlando hospital.
