REMAX Rockin’ All Stars Raises More Than $10,000 For the Kids in Canada

Published on June 30, 2017

Bruce Dougall, trumpet player and real estate agent for REMAX Kelowna, shared his story about the band dedicated to raising funds for Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals.

“I started the group a few years ago… We have taken it upon ourselves to do our own fundraising concerts without any corporate help or promotion. We do it all. The band is made up of all professional caliber players with impressive musical resumes, who are all full-time REMAX Realtors. We do not take a dime for ourselves, but rather donate 100% of our net proceeds to BC Children’s Hospital, our local CMN Hospitals affiliate. From the very start, we determined that our efforts should be directed towards helping the kids. I am proud of our group. Our sound is stellar and second to none.  I am also very proud of the group’s commitment to ‘giving back.'”

Panda Express leaders raise $200,000 for Rady Children’s Hospital

Published on June 15, 2017

Approximately 1800 Panda Restaurant Group leaders gathered in San Diego last week to celebrate their successes, discuss company goals and raise funds for Rady Children’s Hospital.

The theme of the conference was Inspiring Better Lives and all Team Panda attendees were encouraged to always strive for better in themselves and the world around them. Touching messages from leaders within the company were accompanied by inspirational videos documenting the history of the company’s founders, Andrew and Peggy Cherng, and the efforts that all employees have made to help underserved children through donations to 127 Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals.

Over the course of three and a half days, Panda Cares sold logo merchandise, raffle tickets, cheesecakes and other items to raise money for the host city’s local children’s hospital. Panda Associates and vendors contributed just under $160,000 for Rady Children’s Hospital in San Diego. Panda co-CEOs and founders Andrew and Peggy Cherng bumped up the contributions to an even $200,000, which was presented to Rady Children’s during the final session of the conference.

Did you know that every minute, Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals provide $6,500 in charitable care to help save kids’ lives?

That amounts to approximately $3.4 billion in charity care annually.

Thanks to corporate partners like Costco, who have been helping us raise funds for sick and injured children for 30 years, donations stay within local communities and member children’s hospitals use the funds however they need them most—like funding critical treatments and healthcare services or providing pediatric medical equipment and charitable care.

You can learn more about how funds raised are used in this video.

Through the month of May, Miracle Balloons can be purchased at registers at more than 660 Costco stores.

  • Cinnamon Toast Crunch: features JaKiah Collins of Arkansas who receives treatment from Arkansas Children’s Hospital. JaKiah was diagnosed with kidney cancer at age 4. While her school friends learned the alphabet, JaKiah underwent months of chemotherapy, radiation therapy and surgery and is now in remission. She is a vibrant and happy child who will continue enduring numerous ultrasounds, CT scans, X-rays, blood work and checkups until 2023 to ensure she’s cancer free.
  • Honey Nut Cheerios: features Corbin of Minden, Louisiana, who receives treatment at Christus Health Shreveport-Bossier. Corbin was born prematurely and diagnosed with cerebral palsy. In therapy almost five days a week since his initial diagnosis, Corbin has shown amazing perseverance through his illness. In fact, he even participates in mutton busting, where children ride or race sheep.
  • Lucky Charms: features Jordan of Jackson, Mississippi who receives treatment from Batson Children’s Hospital at the University of Mississippi Medical Center. Jordan was born 12 weeks premature and was diagnosed with spastic diplegia — a distinct type of cerebral palsy affecting about 22 percent of all diagnoses. While his condition adversely affects his ability to walk, one of Jordan’s favorite hobbies is running. It’s a perfect example of his optimistic attitude toward life.
  • Multi-Grain Cheerios: features Greer of Cartersville, Georgia. She received treatment from Children’s Hospital at T.C. Thompson Children’s Hospital at Erlanger in Chattanooga, Tennessee. Following a traumatic brain injury caused by a serious horseback riding accident in 2012, Greer was sent to the hospital via emergency helicopter, with a forehead-to-ear laceration and the right side of her face crushed. After undergoing reconstructive surgery the next day, Greer made a remarkable recovery and was released a mere 10 days later. She is now fearlessly “back in the saddle.”
  • Cheerios: features Connor of Jefferson City, Missouri, who receives treatment from MU Children’s Hospital. Connor was diagnosed with brittle bone disease and autism. With no current cure for his conditions, Connor’s treatments will last indefinitely. With his love of dancing and silly sense of humor, Connor makes the most of each day and brings joy to all those he meets.

CometTHON at The University of Texas at Dallas Celebrates a Record-Setting Fundraising Total

Published on April 3, 2017

Written By Rachel Kyes, President of CometTHON

Entering into the role of President in April of 2016, I was daunted by the task that lay ahead. As we planned for the year after the 2016 event, we decided to set a goal of $25,000 to challenge ourselves, with all the funds going to pediatric cancer research at Children’s Medical Center in Dallas. Just one week before our event, we were nowhere close to hitting that goal, but during the final fundraising week the campus rallied together and achieved something amazing. We raised a grand total of $31,864.01, and nearly $6,500 was raised on Friday night alone!

Throughout the event, our dancers and Miracle Families were engaged in a variety of activities. We had 339 dancers register for the event, and over 265 attended throughout the night. During the “Love’s Travel Stops & Country Stores” recognition hour, we heard from Tony Easterling, the Love’s Representative who attended our event, and from two Miracle Families, one of whom Mr. Easterling had the opportunity to introduce. Dancers had the chance to interact with the Miracle Families in attendance during this hour, playing giant Twister and giant Jenga and getting their faces painted with Shayna and Sadie, two of our Miracle Kids. Dancers also participated in Minute-to-Win-It games like “Cookie Face” that engaged the color teams we had separated the dancers into. These teams—red, blue, and green—competed in events later as well during Olympics hour that were a build-up to the final Rave hour and helped to hype dancers up when they were nearing the end of the event. Multiple hours consisted of free dancing time and time to participate in several “stations” we had set up like the giant Jenga and Twister sets.

Multiple dance groups attended the event including a members of Dancing for a Cause, the African Student Union, and a ballet troupe, of which one of our Miracle Kids is a part of. After their group performed, our Miracle Kid Shayna decided that she wanted to dance as well, and joined the morale team onstage as they taught the Throwback hour morale dance. This was a really neat way for the Morale Team and the dancers as a whole group to interact with a Miracle Kid, and we are so blessed to have gotten that opportunity!

When we revealed our total, the room erupted in cheers. Our Executive Team could not believe what we accomplished and the dancers who stayed until midnight were thrilled to be a part of the event. Multiple dancers and team captains stopped me afterward the “Countdown to Sit-down” to say how much they loved the event. It was inspiring to see how many dancers interacted with the Miracle Kids during the event, something missing from most of the 2016 event. One special moment occurred when the daughter of one of the dancers joined a Miracle Kid on stage to help her stage fright and they had a cute moment giving each other high-fives. Our event was exceptional because of moments like this, moments when dancers and Miracle Families were celebrating the lives of children at Children’s side by side. It was awesome to see the campus joined together in support of one amazing cause and I consider myself blessed to have been involved!
