CowboyThon at Oklahoma State University Raises Over $161,000 for Oklahoma Children’s Hospital Foundation

CowboyThon at Oklahoma State University culminated its year-long fundraising efforts on Saturday, Feb. 11 with a 12-hour dance marathon event. With over 1,600 students registered as dancers, the event was full of many miracle makers in attendance.

Thanks to the fundraising efforts of Oklahoma State University students, Love’s Travel Stops & Country Stores and other generous donors, CowboyThon revealed a total raised of $161,204.17 for the Oklahoma Children’s Hospital Foundation, an affiliate of The Children’s Hospital at OU Medical Center.

Over the course of the 12 hours, dancers accepted ridiculous dares for donations on stage, heard Miracle Families share their stories of incredible strength through triumph in the hospital, interacted with 15 Miracle Families in the circus-themed Family Zone and much more.

CowboyThon continued the tradition of the Miracle Child Art Auction, with Miss OSU hosting the segment and bidding canvases painted by Miracle Children to the crowd. The highest bidder took home a canvas for $515, a record-breaking amount for CowboyThon’s Miracle Child Art Auction.

CowboyThon began a new tradition for the program in future years: the hospital bracelet cutting ceremony. Upon registration, each dancer was given an orange bracelet to wear throughout the duration of the day. The bracelets, similar to the patient bracelets that children wear during their hospital stays, represent the connection to the fight for the kids. Before the conclusion of the event and the final total reveal, leadership members traveled around the room with scissors to cut off students’ bracelets as a reminder that even though the marathon had come to and end, the fight still continues.

This past January, HuskyTHON at the University of Connecticut issued a challenge to their campus community to participate in a #ForTheKidsDanceChallenge. To accept the challenge, participants had to post a video of themselves dancing to “Can’t Stop The Feeling” by Justin Timberlake and challenge three friends to do the same. Some students even challenged others to either post a video or donate to their fundraising page.

REMAX Month of Miracles: Isaiah’s Story.

Published on August 3, 2016

Throughout August, we’re celebrating REMAX Miracle Agents across North America who do year-round fundraising for local CMN Hospitals during the 5th annual Month of Miracles. Visit remax.com to find a Miracle Home or Miracle Agent in your community.

Miracle Agent Robert Struck from REMAX of Michigan has been committed to raising funds and awareness for CMN Hospitals since his son Isaiah suffered severe second- and third-degree burns on much of his body following a bonfire accident. Below, Struck shares what it means to his family to be connected both to REMAX and CMN Hospitals.

Struck family_Momentum

When I was asked to describe what Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals means to us, I didn’t know how I could do it in just two paragraphs. When Isaiah’s accident happened, we had no warning and could not have prepared for the care he would need for recovery.

Our son suffered greatly, but in the midst of that suffering, donations from CMN Hospitals provided us a place to stay, a shower so that we were comfortable and could remain by Isaiah’s side throughout treatment and movies to keep Isaiah preoccupied — the only thing that seemed to help him through his pain. Through it all, we learned to accept unwavering compassion and generosity from our friends, family, coworkers, doctors and nurses.

After spending weeks at the hospital, unable to work, our REMAX office in Bay City held a fundraiser to help us with costs. To sum up how we feel about CMN Hospitals and our involvement as a business, I could hardly do justice with words. We do, however, know how CMN Hospitals changed our lives and helped us with the care of our son. To us, our involvement and the REMAX involvement with CMN Hospitals is not only necessary, but priceless to families out there just like us. When our storm hit, CMN Hospitals was the umbrella that helped us get back to sunshine and clear skies. Thank you, on behalf of the Struck family and all families who have received care and support from CMN Hospitals.

ky-aiden-johnsonDiagnosed with cancer of the blood and bone marrow when he was 2 years old, Aiden has been through a lot. He underwent three long years of treatment, having his last chemotherapy treatment on his sixth birthday. After being off treatment for two years, the unthinkable happened when Aiden and his family learned that his cancer had returned.

“Fighting cancer stinks. Fighting cancer twice stinks even more! I was very scared but never wanted to give up the fight,” said Aiden. He has undergone multiple procedures and treatments including central line placements, chemotherapy, lumbar punctures and countless blood and platelet transfusions.

Aiden is now in remission. During his hospital stays, Aiden used Legos as a distraction from treatment. Since it helped comfort him, he and his family have made it their mission to provide Legos to other kids in the hospital and have collected thousands, while also raising more than $100,000 for their hospital.

How donations helped Aiden at Kosair Children’s Hospital:

The child life program, funded by CMN Hospitals donations, provides patients like Aiden with Beads of Courage, a visual journal of the treatments they’ve endured. Currently, Aiden’s beads measure over 90 feet long.

Thousands of REMAX Agents Gather To Celebrate $9 Million Raised

Published on March 8, 2016

Nearly 6,000 REMAX agents gathered in Las Vegas last week for the annual R4 convention. Among them, many agents who participate in the Miracle Home and Miracle Property programs and who contributed to the $9 million raised for Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals in 2015.

Representing the millions of CMN Hospitals patients REMAX supports each year was 10-year-old Camryn. Born six weeks premature, with a congenital heart defect and multiple orthopedic issues, she endured a dozen surgeries and was told she may never walk, talk or see. Today, Camryn is a walking, talking and country music-singing miracle.

Camryn was first introduced to R4 attendees at the opening general session hosted by Jay Leno. She blew kisses to the crowd during an interview with REMAX senior vice president, business alliances, Mike Reagan as she shared her inspiring story and thanked agents for support of CMN Hospitals.

Throughout the week, agents had multiple opportunities to interact with Camryn, make donations and learn more about supporting CMN Hospitals. Golfers purchased mulligans with donations at the Tee it Up for Kids Golf Tournament. Top REMAX donors were honored at a special breakfast with REMAX co-founder Gail Linger. Agents received training on a new Miracle System to streamline agent donations and honor cards through the Miracle Home and Miracle Property programs. Dillard’s featured Camryn and her mom in a spring fashion show and donated to CMN Hospitals a percentage of clothing sales. A live auction including celebrity meet and greets, vacation getaways and once-in-a-lifetime experiences also took place, raising $150,000 toward the REMAX 2016 fundraising goal.

Robert Struck is raising funds for Hurley Children’s Hospital in honor of his son Isaiah.

Miracle Agent Robert Struck from REMAX of Michigan has been committed to raising funds and awareness for Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals since his son Isaiah suffered severe second and third degree burns on much of his body following a bonfire accident.

Isaiah was rushed to Hurley Children’s Hospital, the closest Children’s Miracle Network Hospital with Level 1 Trauma Burn unit, where he stayed for two weeks. Isaiah recently won the Battle of the Brave national contest put on by Speedway, earning $20,000 for Hurley.

Although dad Robert never expected to be “one of those unfortunate families,” he has used this experience to encourage other families and supporting his local CMN Hospital more than ever in gratitude for the medical care, expertise and hope that was given to Isaiah and his family.

The funds that REMAX agents like Robert raise each year through the Miracle Homes program is critical to provide needed pediatric care for sick and injured kids in your community, neighborhood and even family. Thank you to Robert and our friends at REMAX for your dedicated support!
