Meet AK
The unthinkable happened when AK was hit by a drunk driver while walking home from school. Her injuries were extensive and included severe head and brain injuries, and fractures to her skull, neck, face, nose, eye socket, cheekbone, hand and ribs. Airlifted to Upstate Golisano Children's Hospital, she embarked on a long road of healing and recovery that began with a medically induced coma. Her parents feared she wouldn't walk or play sports again. A dedicated medical team fought alongside her, providing expert care and unwavering support. Thanks to donations to Children's Miracle Network Hospitals, Child Life specialists offered comfort and encouragement during her 7-week coma and extensive rehabilitation. Today, AK continues to defy expectations, playing basketball, coaching, and volunteering and raising funds for the children's hospital.
