Meet Maxxella
Maxxella's journey began with a prenatal diagnosis that turned excitement into fear. Born with a hole in her diaphragm, Maxxella's organs pushed into her chest placing her heart on the wrong side of her body and threatening her lung development. At just three days old, she underwent life-saving surgery. Thanks to the expert care at Cohen Children's Medical Center the surgery was successful! Maxxella still comes to the hospital but with the support of the Child Life program, she has overcome her fear of needles and other challenges. Today, despite having severe asthma, she's a vibrant 7-year-old who loves swimming, rock climbing, and giving epic hugs.
