Creed was diagnosed with Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD), a rare genetic disorder that causes progressive muscle weakness and often shortens life expectancy, as a baby.
His family was devastated when their local hospital offered no options, but at Duke Children’s they found hope and a care team committed to giving Creed the best possible life. At five, Creed enrolled in a clinical trial at Duke for a new DMD treatment. Weekly infusions at Duke became part of his life, where he built friendships with nurses and enjoyed projects from the Arts & Health team. After years of study, the drug, now called Viltepso, received FDA approval, and Creed now receives infusions at home. At 13, Creed can still walk and remains active, a remarkable milestone for a child with DMD. His care team at Duke continues to guide his journey, while Creed inspires others with his resilience, joy, and love for Duke athletics.
