Meet Champion, Owen

Owen was born happy and healthy. But at a routine follow-up appointment, his pediatrician discovered high bilirubin levels. He was immediately admitted to Atrium Health Levine Children’s Beverly Knight Olson Children’s Hospital, where he underwent phototherapy to treat newborn jaundice. Thankfully, Owen responded quickly, and his parents were able to take him home soon after. What stood out most to Owen’s mom was the care and compassion they experienced during such a frightening time. “From the smallest scares to the biggest, scariest diagnosis, each child matters here,” she says. “Our baby was treated like he was their baby. They heard our fears and concerns and sat with us while we waited for test results. We were treated like family.” Today, eightyear-old Owen is thriving. He competes in local barbecue competitions and has even launched his own line of barbecue rubs and sauces.
