Meet Evee

When Evee’s parents learned they were expecting, it was a dream come true after years of believing children wouldn’t be in their future. At 30 weeks, doctors discovered fluid in Evee’s abdomen and performed an in-utero paracentesis, but the fluid returned, and Evee was delivered by C-section at Saint Francis Children’s Hospital. Doctors discovered she had ruptured her small intestine in utero, leading to life-threatening complications, multiple surgeries, an ileostomy and a central line for long-term IV nutrition. Diagnosed with short gut syndrome, she faced challenges tolerating the tiniest amounts of formula. Her 133-day neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) stay was a roller coaster of setbacks and victories, but Evee and her care team never stopped fighting. Today, six-year-old Evee is thriving, joyful, and unstoppable. Her journey even inspired her mom to transition into hospital pharmacy at Saint Francis Children’s Hospital, giving back to the very team that saved Evee’s life.
