When Greta’s heart began to fail as a baby, her family turned to the specialists at Lurie Children’s Heart Center. For 225 days, they waited with hope for the gift of a new heart, while the hospital’s Ventricular Assist Device program kept her healthy enough for a transplant. Her care team not only focused on Greta’s medical needs but embraced her entire family, offering support and compassion through every step. When the call for a new heart finally came, Greta’s transplant surgery was a success, and she emerged stronger than ever. Today, seven-year-old Greta loves dancing, spending time with her big brother, Liam, and going to school. Her journey is a testament to the life-saving expertise, advanced technology, and compassionate care that she received at Lurie Children’s.
