Meet Kylie
Cook Children's
At the end of second grade, what seemed like constipation turned out to be acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL). Ten-year-old Kylie joined a clinical trial, hoping to help other kids while treating her own cancer. When the initial treatment didn’t bring remission, additional therapies finally did, and some of the trial’s methods are now standard frontline treatment for ALL. Over the next two years, Kylie endured 61 nights in the hospital and 164 clinic visits. Avascular necrosis caused her hip to collapse, and she now uses a wheelchair until a future hip replacement. Despite this, she raises funds for Cook Children’s Hematology and Oncology Center, hosts blood drives and organized PJ and Girl Scout Cookie donations to help kids like her. Two years later, twelve-year-old Kylie rang the bell to mark the end of treatment. Now in survivorship care, she uses her courage and compassion to inspire and help others.
