Meet Luke

From infancy, Luke’s mom, Jennifer, knew something was different. He missed milestones, remained very small for his age, and by age three, looked more like an 18-month-old. After years without answers, Jennifer’s persistence led the family to Shodair Children’s Hospital, where testing revealed a rare mutation of the DNMT3A gene. Thanks to Shodair, with support from Children’s Miracle Network, Luke finally got a diagnosis—including osteoporosis—and the answers they had been seeking. That diagnosis opened doors to care, school support, and opportunities he needed to thrive. Now in high school, Luke lights up the Special Olympics with his trademark “permagrin,” competing in bocce, bowling, basketball, and soccer alongside his Unified Champion partner. Despite frequent fractures, he continues to show courage and determination. Today, 15-year-old Luke still meets regularly with Shodair’s genetics team, contributing to research and bringing hope to families searching for answers.
