Born at 25 weeks and weighing just 1lb, 9oz, Major faced tremendous challenges from the start, including brain bleeds, retinopathy of prematurity, and bronchopulmonary dysplasia (BPD). After beginning care at another hospital, he was transferred to Riley Children’s Health, home to Indiana’s only interdisciplinary BPD program. There, his lung development was closely monitored while specialists in developmental pediatrics, neurology, and physical and occupational therapy supported his growth. He went home dependent on oxygen and a G-tube but eventually no longer needed either. Now three years old, Major is thriving. Once facing developmental delays, he can count in Spanish, spell his name, and proudly tell you his birthday. His journey reflects the power of early intervention, expert care, and perseverance. His bright future gives hope to his family and everyone who meets him
