Meet Oakley

When Oakley was four years old, her parents noticed something wasn’t right with their daughter and took her to a local urgent care. Referred to the hospital there, doctors determined she needed pediatric care and sent her to Hurley Children’s Hospital. There, a chest X-ray revealed her lung was completely collapsed and filled with fluid. Oakley was admitted with low oxygen and transferred to the pediatric intensive care unit (PICU) where a nurse strongly advocated for surgery. The doctors guided her care while supporting the family through their fear. The procedure took just 15 minutes, and Oakley began to recover — but persistent fevers led to a diagnosis of Kawasaki disease. After multiple treatments, Oakley was discharged home to her parents and big sister, Sloan. Her journey, marked by expert care and compassionate support, gave her the strength to return to life as a thriving five-year-old.
