Meet Enzo
Born at 36 weeks with a low Apgar score and breathing difficulties, Enzo was initially stabilized but soon struggled again. At just three weeks old, his family took him to Golisano Children’s Hospital, where he was admitted to the pediatric intensive care unit. Doctors discovered a cleft in his larynx, causing breathing, eating, and swallowing difficulties, as well as immune issues and severe anemia. Over the years, Enzo has faced chronic aspiration requiring recurrent hospitalizations. At the age of three, his team performed a stitch repair, which led to a long recovery. Recently, he was also diagnosed with severe eosinophilic esophagitis, a chronic condition requiring ongoing care. Enzo has been admitted 25 times, undergone seven surgeries, and received countless tests and infusions. Yet through it all, his Golisano care team has become family. With their expertise and four-year-old Enzo’s dino-loving spirit, he continues to face every challenge with strength.
